Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United just half a year following leading derogatory taunts aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year career with Leeds concluded through agreement this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead insulting songs about Chris Wilder during the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to rescue the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Past History Between the Striker & Wilder

Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All appears has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Latest Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the ex- Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
