President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has asked the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Incident

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president told reporters. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Support

Mourners assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to support public safety in DC.

Paying Tribute to Beckstrom

“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”

Memorial arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Steps and Government Changes

Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The event caused the government to halt refugee claims and cease providing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the news agency.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed a news show that she also intended to speak to his relatives.

Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he addressed the audience at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
