A Major Acquisition for United The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team. Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month. Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised. Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight. For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals. She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals. Gathering Steam at Carrington The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum. Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals. Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business: The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023. On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.” The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
